Top 1% of Italki 2022 English teachers! (From 2022 Italki Statistics) Hello, I’m Sophie! I’m from the UK and combine my passion for literature and deep thinking in my English lessons. I have taught in schools in Spain and South Korea, and have been teaching online since 2021. In this time, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of students, and even got to meet several of them in person! I love reading novels, keeping up to date with the news, and drinking coffee! I recently finished my Masters’ Degree in Psychology and frequently offer discussion topics around happiness, mental health, and other related topics. I speak Spanish and am learning Korean.
My classes are inspired by my own experience at Oxford University, where tutors will ask difficult questions in order to push students to think critically about a range of issues. In both my literature and University-style advanced classes, you will improve your English whilst also thinking deeply about a literary text or topic. The classes are led by your interests, with a choice of three different topics each lesson, with a mix of lighter and more serious topics. I am a warm and friendly teacher and love meeting new people. One of the highlights working with Italki has been getting to meet some of my students in person and holding meet-ups for those who live in London.
PLEASE NOTE: 60 min classes are 55 minutes! Conversation Class: In this class we will learn new vocabulary and gain confidence in speaking English. Conversation classes are always carefully structured around a topic. University-Style Tutorials: These classes are based on my experience of the tutorial system at Oxford University. We will read through an article or essay together, learning specialized vocabulary and discussing complex topics. Literature Classes: Learn English through literature! We will read a short story together, discussing language, theme and context. Feel free to make your own requests! All lessons come with optional homework and resources for further learning.
